Ambiguity
Something that I believe makes these MMORPG's so rich is the diversity of the character designs. I was surprised when I first saw the limited number of options available just how many different appearances could be made, however after some time, you do begin to see familiar hair styles or armor. In the next game I would like to see a wider range of character design options available.
Secondly with regard to professions, this may sound a little extreme and I'm sure it will be met with great hostility by some, but I believe that other players should not have access to the profession information of other players, in this i believe that players would be forced to form strategic teams and strategies to deal with ambiguous players, e.g. 'why is that guy standing so far back? Is he an elementalist and is avoiding direct conflict, or is he a fighter, handing back for a second wave assault.' Linking these two points together, though i do believe that clothing should be determined by profession, I do not believe that it should be so easy to determine what each player is.
Any thought...

I agree with tenshi the first one, is a dead horse, and its been beaten many times.
but
/Signed
the second one. due to the first one, and the limited looks of each proffesion it is rather easy to tell what someone is on armor/appearance alone. The only thing that you really get from clicking on them is that they are a war/ele or nec/mo and even then that doesnt always tell you what to expect. just because a sin is a/w doesnt mean he/she is a BOA.
/unsigned
I dont see the point.

/not signed on any counts.
In a busy GvG it gives non-English clients too much of an advantage, since you aren't able to learn the names.
Also, it will just cause annoyances rather than make a feature.

Sorry, but no. The similar appearance is meant to let players realize you are a certain class just by a simple glance.
But that only tells you something: Primary attribute and possible armor choices.
Nothing else.

If we ever get to a point where chars could look similar to other classes AND could use similar armors (platemails for example) then i dont see why not.
BUT if we never come to this it will be just useless

I cannot agree with your second suggestion, but the first suggestion, you've been beat to it already.
